Artist's Statement:
This piece captures the breathtaking expanse of the Maple Pass Loop—one of the most awe-inspiring trails in the North Cascades. Known for its sweeping alpine views, golden larches, and rugged ridgelines, the trail has a way of making time feel both still and fleeting. I wanted to hold onto that feeling—the quiet pause before a gust of wind moves through the trees, the fast pulse of a heart as the elevation climbs.
My drawing traces the curve of the ridgeline just as it breaks open to panoramic views of Lake Ann below and the endless peaks beyond. I was especially drawn to the interplay of texture and light here: the soft haze in the distance, the jagged granite outcrops, and the rhythm of trees turning white with the first light snow of the season. Every line aims to preserve the feeling of standing there in that vast, wild space—small, humbled, and grateful.
This work is part of my ongoing adventure series, which seeks to celebrate the beauty of Washington’s natural places and the emotional moments that unfold in them. Maple Pass Loop is not just a trail; it’s an experience that stays with you—and I hope this drawing does the same.
